Matsutake and Bamboo Shoots | Foraging Basket Painting | Antique Scroll
A hanging wall scroll that depicts a basket full of edible foraged plants on an Autumn day. This piece was created by Shiokawa Bunrin (1808-1877), a painter who was active during the Edo and Meiji periods. He studied under Okamoto Toyohiko (1773-1845) and became a central figure in the Shijo school of the Meiji Restoration period. In 1866 he gathered painters from Kyoto and formed the Nyounsha.
